In the first paragraph the
character seems nervous and has a strange attitude, he think that eyes are
watching him from behind the bushes, and we can infer that he has made
something wrong ore make a bad decision. At the first phrase the character
mentions a woman, the woman how he had had a relationship, and has just break
up. Finally he enters his car and gets out of there.
The second paragraph starts talking
about death and that it didn’t matter where you lay ones you are dead. This
idea is very interesting because is very critical and is totally different from
what a normal person will think (be buried in a cemetery): This idea is very
attach with Holden’s idea in “The catcher in the rye”, were he criticizes the formality
of burring a dead body. Then talks about death as an eternal sleep where nothing
bothers you and you don’t have to care for anything. He mentions the nastiness
of death and he says that he is part of it now. This phrase is a simile between
death and the end of a marriage (end of a relationship), where you “also die”
(in a metaphorical way). This is the main idea of all the text, a comparison
between death and the end of a relationship, how de decision of ending his
relationship affects him in a way similar to death, where you are alone but you
can be in peace. This may say that the character wanted to end hi relationship,
but this idea let him to things he didn’t want (you go to a bar to get drunk when
you are sad).
In the last paragraph the character
gives evidence for this idea because he goes to a bar to get drunk, because of
this decision he has made.
