Analysing Picture
This picture represents the need of help of the African people, because of famine. This image compares the nutrition of an African boy (who his suffering from malnutrition), and an occidental personae (who is well-nourished). This image invites as to understand the pain and help them.
Active reading activity
Text 1: This text says that arcade game in pubs will be closed because of cruelty to animals in games (Crayfish). This means that rights of animals should be respected and we should stop cruelty. This matter because animal cruelty is a huge problem in many places.
Text 2: This text says that Mrs. Joe was raised up "by hand", and therefore their reputation to have a heavy hand. This means that they were very strict. This matter because their children will be the same.
Tex 3: This text tell us about people drowning. This mean that they didn't now to swim: This matter because people sink in their one words (
metaphorically ).

Analysing a text
In the first paragraph the
character seems nervous and has a strange attitude, he think that eyes are
watching him from behind the bushes, and we can infer that he has made
something wrong ore make a bad decision. At the first phrase the character
mentions a woman, the woman how he had had a relationship, and has just break
up. Finally he enters his car and gets out of there.
The second paragraph starts talking
about death and that it didn’t matter where you lay ones you are dead. This
idea is very interesting because is very critical and is totally different from
what a normal person will think (be buried in a cemetery): This idea is very
attach with Holden’s idea in “The catcher in the rye”, were he criticizes the formality
of burring a dead body. Then talks about death as an eternal sleep where nothing
bothers you and you don’t have to care for anything. He mentions the nastiness
of death and he says that he is part of it now. This phrase is a simile between
death and the end of a marriage (end of a relationship), where you “also die”
(in a metaphorical way). This is the main idea of all the text, a comparison
between death and the end of a relationship, how de decision of ending his
relationship affects him in a way similar to death, where you are alone but you
can be in peace. This may say that the character wanted to end hi relationship,
but this idea let him to things he didn’t want (you go to a bar to get drunk when
you are sad).
In the last paragraph the character
gives evidence for this idea because he goes to a bar to get drunk, because of
this decision he has made.
Week 7 Analysing text
This week we we started analysing texts (and images), preparing our self for the evaluation of the blogs on Monday (cumulative test). We analyse an extract of the "Cacher in the Rye" , an excellent book that we read last year with miss Carolina.
Week 6 Studding Literature
This week we had an oral presentation. My group exposed about Theories of language, referring to two main theories: Skinner's theory of language, and Chomsky's theory of language. There were many presentation, same very funny like the Misunderstanding ones, that made an representation of the misunderstanding of cultures.
Also this week we learn the main ways of studying literature, for example the Scientific determinism (Literature= Science ), New criticism (only care about the text), and the Reader Response (the reader's interpretation is important). The one I like the most was the New criticism, because you didn't need to consider other factors like the life of the author ore the socio-economic statue of the author.

Week 5 and Happy Eastern
This week we had a listening test of language an miss Veronica Cordero from PUCV started teaching ass a new topic, critical study of literature
Eastern
is a Christian feast and holiday celebrating
the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third
day after
his crucifixion .Easter is preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is
called Holy Week, and it contains the days of the Easter Triduum, including Maundy Thursday,
commemorating Maundy and the Last Supper, as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion
and death of Jesus. Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or
the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday.
Week 4 Stereotypes
This week we talk about culture and stereotypes, stereotypes are a generalization (attitudes, values, ideas, etc) of a group of people, that can be good ore bad. A bad stereotype, will be the German stereotype: all German people are Nazi. This isn't true and because of a small group in second world war, people link this ideal to all German culture.
"Culture broadly defines a system of meaning for a group of people ant it includes language, laws, customs, myths, images..."(C.C page 37)
"Culture is ordinary: (...)Every human society has its own shape, its own meaning. Every human society expresses these, in institutions, and in the arts and learning..." (Raymond Williams)
Culture has many definitions, but the one I like the most is Raymond's theorie, he defines culture as common and characteristic of all human beings (every group has it one culture), differentiating from the concept of high culture, that is known as a social level, and related to manners and knowledge

Week 3 Debate
This week we were debating in groups of two or three students about:
'Humans are born with ability to create language' v/s 'Language is a learnt construct like the rules governing a sport'
This activity was very interesting because we could show our debate skills and learn new things of language, having a good experience.

Language is a tool that can be use to express our ideas to others letting as work together, it defines as as a group, and give as an cultural identity.
