“Punk for a month” v/s Aladdin (draft)

Todays task is to connect a movie to the text we have being reading “Punk for a month”. This text talks about a girl called Julie that changes her appearance to be accepted by the “popular” social group of the school.

I thought about movies that had the same theme and I have finally chosen Aladdin, a Disney film from 1992. This movie is set in Agrabah, an Arabic city under the government of the Sultan. The city is shown as politically and economically stable and ruled by the Sultan, a wealthy person how has a daughter called Jazmin. The protagonist of the movie is a “street rat” called Aladdin how makes his day a day living by stealing but that in his heart is really a good person. One day the princes escapes (dressed as a normal person) from the palace of the sultan and meets Aladdin, how tries to impress her. Later the princess goes back to the palace leaving Aladdin. He later finds a magic lamp in dungeon that contains a genie, who reveals he will grant Aladdin three wishes. Aladdin tells the genie he wants to be a sultan so he can marry jasmine and is transformed to a sultan.

Both  stories have a similar plot where the protagonists change their appearance to be liked by a certain group. Aladdin, by using the powers of the genie changes its appearence to be liked by the princess and Julie from punk for a month changes the way she dresses and her hair.

Altho this two stories have different setting, bouth of them have a similar plot.

Questions to the text

1-.I think appearance is not a real indicator of the personality someone has. Judging a person by how they dress is a huge error; appearance is not an indicator of the personality of a person. I think is always inappropriate to judge someone by their way of dressing because is not an indicator of their way of life.

2-.I think Julie didn’t handle the situation as she should, because she was too aggressive to her friends. Maybe she should have addressed her friends differently, by having an open-minded conversation.

3-.The new friends of Julie may be only judging her by how she dresses and not by her personality. This is a huge problem because she is generating new friendship bonds based in his appearance, so if she ever changes her way of dressing they may alienate her (as her old friend did).

4-.I think Julie changed only her appearance but maintained her personality. Although she acted differently, she was the same person as before and only changed her attitude because of the way she dressed. I think the appearance can change the way a person behaves, but can’t change their personality (their way of seeing life).

Reproductive tourism slavery and business

“The Akanksha clinic is at the forefront of India’s booming trade in so-called reproductive tourism — foreigners coming to the country for infertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization. The clinic’s main draw, however, is its success using local women to have foreigners’ babies. Surrogacy costs about $12,000 in India, including all medical expenses and the surrogate’s fee. In the U.S., the same procedure can cost up to $70,000.”

India is one of the countries that has more poverty in the world, measures for ending poverty in India are a known issue that has had many answers but has never provided a real life solution for the Indian population. Poverty is one of the issues that are relevant to our society, and scientists are investigating ways to reduce de amount of poverty worldwide. Reproductive tourism may seem like an excellent solution for poor mother to earn money, but it’s not. Surrogated mother are not considering the implications of this growing problem.

Constant body rental can have many dangerous problems because it damages many tissues. Constant pregnancy can affect the uterus and liver, generating huge damage in does organs that may generate future infertility problems. But tissue damage is not the only problem this activity can cause; it can also generate damage to the wellbeing of the mother resulting in abuses of the clinic, and a later slavery.

Renting a woman’s uterus is just disgraceful, how can we let poor mother be forced to rent their own bodies for money. We are falling into nothing more than slavery where poor mother have to give away their own body to have something to eat. As a 21^st century society we can’t permit women to be slaved by clinics exploiting their bodies for money 

Commenting about future predictions

Last class we were told to predict about what will happen to world and society in 2038. I had chosen these 4 aspects from the list, here’s the LINK for the class.

6-. I think in the future food production will be more mechanized; robots will take care of the tasks that humans used to do such as harvest the food or even transportation of those products to the markets, where we will have a constant food supply. Maybe in the future food will be genetically modified for as to produce huge amounts of food with only using small amount of resources.

3-. I believe in the future we will have a 100% globalized world, being able to interact with people all over the world in just seconds, helping business industries or even family interactions.

5-. Massive Transportation, I believe, will be much more effective than today. There will be flying cars and fast flying buses.

7-. I think transplant surgeries will be much more effective and lest risky. People will get transplanted their own pre constructed organs from steam cells.
