Coca-Cola ad analysis
This
commercial is trying to sell the coca cola beverages. They set the commercial
at the Sahara desert, a place known by the characteristics of having high
temperatures and for being extremely dry. At second 2 the video shows a typical
image of the Sahara desert were we can see camels, people dressed with turbans
and far in the distance huge sand mountains. But at second 5 the houl image
transforms because of an enormous coca cola bottle, the coke is as a “miracle”
for the person that appears because of his thirst (alludes to the
characteristic of refreshing beverages). At second 10 a group of cowboys also
see the coke and start riding to it, in this moment we have the Rising action.
At second 15 the third group appears, this group is a kind of motorized gang
dressed with thorns and leather jackets, giving a rude image. After this
everyone starts running or riding towards the coke so they can have it for
their one. At second 25 the last group appears, they are a bus full of exotic
dancers dressed entirely with pink (this absurd image creates a comic moment).
This commercial has a lot of messages; first we can identify the most important message, that coke is so good and tasty that everyone wants it. This can be seen when everyone fights for getting the coke (now one would let the other have the coke). Another message is that coke is very refreshing, we can see this when the person dressed with turbans as he sees the tremendous coca cola bottle close his eyes in a way of satisfaction (second 8), also this is fortified by the setting (Sahara desert). Finally the last message that the commercial tries to show is that coke is a beverages for everyone, no matter how you are or what you do, you will always like coke. This is represented with the different person’s appearing in the commercial, we have from cowboys to exotic dancers.
This commercial is directed to any kind of audience, as it doesn’t contain any illegal content (that doesn’t follow the US policies of advertisement. It is focused on all the members of the family as it has a comic content and a story with climax (it makes the audience eager to know how will win).
